This is the area that you can see some of the most innovation in the glass production space. There are countless forms of percs out there and new ones are created all the time. So let’s try to break this down a bit to understand what percs do, and what the general difference can be.
So the main concept of a perc is to filter the smoke or vapor in the water longer. This is achieved by the downstem having an attachment submerged in the water. One of the more basic versions of a perc is the “snake bite”, which is two holes at the end of a tube in the water. The more elaborate percs include styles like the “honeycomb perc” or “turbine perc” that cause the smoke to filter through the water more than the more simplistic versions. As a result the smoke is cooled off a bit more allowing for a smoother experience. Everyone finds they like their own style, no one is necessarily better than another.
