Dab Rigs
So we talked about bongs, which are for flower, then there are the water pipes for concentrates called dab rigs. These follow the same idea as a bong, with the water filtration but they do not have a slide. Instead of a slide they use what is called a “banger” or “bucket”. The user puts the bucket in the rig and heats the base of the bucket with a torch. After the bucket gets up to temperature the user puts their concentrate in the bucket. This can be done by using a dabber or sometimes with their fingers and they just drop it in. Rigs can be a bit more complicated to use after having all these additional tools, like the banger and the dabber, then on top of that bubble caps can also be used to enhance the smoking experience. We will get into the bubble caps a bit more here.
Rigs can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some have very creative features where the water is recycled up and down while smoking, others are very basic. The price points for these vary dramatically. One of the other features that set different rigs apart are the “percs” which help increase the water filtration. We will cover percs in more detail here
